Plastic Trim Refinishing

As the BMW E39/E46 era of cars are now around the 20-year mark, most interior plastics, leather, and fabric have started to deteriorate. The severity of this damage will vary depending on:

• Exposure to UV from the Sun
• Use of incorrect cleaning chemicals
• General wear and tear from years of use (e.g. key scratches in compartments)

Many BMW Interior plastic trims had a factory coating known as BMW Softlack, which gave the hard plastics a softer, smoother feel. While this coating looks good when new, after many years of wear and UV exposure, the coating starts to gum, become sticky and starts to peel. See below:

What we do:

Our refinishing process restores the interior plastic pieces back to the original finish as it came from the factory. This process involves:

• Removal of old coating
• Application of factory colour (schwarz, beige, or grey)
• Resurfacing of Softlack
• Heat curing of the finish

The end result is a UV stable finish that is strong, long lasting, and provides a soft touch feel. The finish has no visible orange peel (the wavy texture that appears when trying to refinish with traditional spray cans), and looks almost identical to the OEM Finish

We provide different levels of service based on your needs and budget, all to the same high quality standard.
The cheapest option is for you to remove the items yourself and provide them to us. The most noticeable items we would recommend refinishing are:

• Centre console ashtray
• Driver side pocket
• Steering wheel trim.

We would then refinish these in approximately 2-3 days, ready for you to reinstall.
For a full service, we can remove all interior parts for you, refinish them, and reinstall in approximately 3-4 days. This would include the entire centre console from armrest to ashtray, driver side pocket, door cards and steering wheel.
